I'm Hired!

Well I found out the news last Thursday that I am now hired in the position I was temping in. I was asked to go into my new boss's office first thing in the morning, and he tells me that they decided to hire and make me permanent. Sweet! I was not expecting to hear anything that quick, but that works for me.
The very interesting part of this is that...one of the reasons they hired me was because they decided to terminate my old position in Accounts Payable (technically Vendor Correspondence), and they are downsizing! How about that!!! I am very lucky that I was moved here when I did. If I was still working in my old department, I could have been one of the people in that group to get let go...adios! I am not sure how they would have made that decision, basing it on seniority or people's work ethics, but I am just glad I won't have to go through that at all.
I just hope that I like it here. This position is not exactly the most exciting, but at least I am getting more money, I hope. However, I am still going to keep my eye out for other stuff in the meantime. This company seems to not be very stable these days, and who knows what will happen next. I have been here for over 4 years now, maybe enough for one place, but we will see what happens down the line.

Blogger Antek: SWEET ASS stuff sista... congrats. 9:37 PM

Blogger Silver: Rock! Now when's the raise???? 12:44 PM

Blogger k o w: I think your honey should give you a good, congratulatory back rub. 10:27 AM

Blogger Red Sox Fanatic: Now I like the sound of that!
I haven't had one of those in a while, sorry babe. 12:17 PM

Blogger Jenni: YEAH HEATHER! Good luck with the new job.... or whatever you decide to do! And tell Dave to GET ON IT! You should get ATLEAST weekly back rubs. He is slackin! 7:48 AM

Friday night bowling, yay!

The other night, Dave and I along with two other friends of mine went out for a night of bowling. This was actually my friend's idea, but I certainly was not complaining. I LOVE bowling so much! I have not gone in years, but I was ready to kick some ass!
This was kind've like a double-date night. I was trying to set up my friend from work with this guy I somewhat dated for a few times years back. They both came to my birthday/360 LAN party a few weeks back, and they both took a liking to each other, so I decided to set something up.

It was a blast! We played guys against girls, and it certainly made for some good competiion. My friend said he had only bowled once or twice in their lives, Dave has bowled numerous time, but not in a long time, so my friend and I knew that we had the games in our hands.
We played 3 games total, and the winners of the night were the women! WOO-HOO! I actually had the highest score in game #1, and then I had the highest score in game #3. HA! My friend had the highest score in game #2. Go Lex! The guys were slow at first, but started creeping up in game #2 and made some close scores between all of us. Good job guys!

What made it fun too was the part of the night where they turn the lights off and turn on the neon lighs and play music in the background while you are playing. I am not sure of the correct name of what it is called. I think they call it Rock-n-Bowl, but I have heard it called as Cosmic Bowling too. I think though I am all set for a while now. One being my fingers are hurting from holding the ball, and I know Dave's arm is hurting from throwing the ball. I am glad we went regardles.

Blogger Antek: We here in SI call it "Cosmic Bowling" and although I have not gone in years I would like to go again.. hell my arm can't hurt anymore then it did after 4 hours of shoveling snow today (that was SO NOT COOL) 12:06 AM

Anonymous Anonymous: They call it "Rock and Bowl" in PA, although I have heard it called "Cosmic Bowling," too. I'm glad the women kicked &ss! ;-) 8:00 AM

My newest addiction

About a few weeks ago, Dave and I threw a party for my birthday and a 360 LAN party, and a bunch of cool people came over.
A few of the people that came by were our friends from NY, which were Ralph, April, their son Matty, and their kick-ass friend Tony (you can thank me later Tony, lol). Well before they came, I kindly asked (well maybe I didn't, oops) if they could bring some of their NY style bagels which are so awesome! Of course you could get something similar here, but they are not the same. Boston.....New York...I pick NY!

Well in addition to the bagels they brought, they also came with a jar of this delicious peanut butter swirled with cinnamon and raisins to spead on the bagels.

The name of this company is called....

At first my thought was..."no way am I putting peanut butter on my bagel". If I am going to spread my NY bagel with anything, it's going to be cream cheese, what most people put on their bagel. Ralph said this peanut butter stuff was one of the best things he had ever tried. I did believe him, but I chose not to try it just yet, and I wanted to stick with cream cheese for now. Eventually we ran out of cream cheese, so I decided to try out this stuff. After a few bites, my tastebuds were starting to like it. It turned to be surprisingly good at this point, leading me to either have another bagel or just put some on a knife and lick it (which is something I usually don't do). Dave already loved this stuff a lot, and now I did too!!!

It's too bad this stuff is only found in NY, but the good thing about is, you can order some online.

Their website is http://www.ilovepeanutbutter.com

Blogger Antek: This stuff is like crack... and thanks for the compliment, you kick ass too ;-) 12:02 AM

Blogger k o w: I had that stuff down Ralph's last year and have been hunting for it ever since. So goddamn good. 3:09 PM

Changes at work...

Well....
I have something interesting to discuss that happened to me at work today.
I lost my job, but gained another one the same day.
My boss decided to call us in for a meeting today out of the blue about noontime, not too long before we take off for lunch at 12:30. She says I have something important to tell you all. She goes on to say one of the people working in Merchandise Accounting just got promoted, and so they need someone to replace the position ASAP. The thing is they cannot put up a post for the new opening b/c the CEO is on vacation, and he plays a role in that, so they need to pull someone from one of the departments until he comes back which is 2 weeks I believe.
She then goes on to say that they tried to ask many people in other departments if they could assist for the meantime, but I guess most people are swamped right now. At this point, we are told that our department is now the target, and my boss breaks the news that us that one of us is going to be let go and placed in that department. We are like, WHHHAAATTT?!?!?! I am now thinking...what if it's me?!?! I haven't even been in my department for 6 months, and I am still learning. So finally she says, the name of the person being let go is Heather. I am thinking, freakin figures! The decision was based on who was the most recent person to get hired in the department, and DING, that's me!
My co-worker then asks when I will be starting, and my boss then says tomorrow. Tomorrow?!?! That isn't enough notice! I have not even told my vendors I am leaving, I haven't cleaned up yet, and now I am about to leave?! OY!

Here's the thing though....
1) I am going to the position on a temporary basis, but when the CEO comes back from his vacation, they are going to check my progress, and if they like me, I could get offered the position permanently, and will get a raise b/c this new department is a higher level than the one I am in (or used to be in).
or
2) A posting would go up in a few weeks when the CEO returns, and if they find someone else, I am done, and I can go back to my old position, no questions asked.

What do I do? I really love the group of people I work with, and I really don't want to leave, but if I like this position, I would make more money, and I could definitely use it! I had a rough 4 years with the 1st 4 years working in my old department, and I was loving the people that I work with every day, but now I have to make new friends all over again, job #3. Can I really do that...I am not sure. I guess I will soon find out.

Turns out I had one more surprise as well. I get back from lunch, and about an hour later my boss comes by and says so and so wants to know (my boss's boss's boss who is an asshole, lol) when I am going to start the new position, and once he heard, he instead tells my boss he wants me to start this afternoon once afternoon break is over, which is 3:30! Ahhh...yeaaahh...now I really have no notice. Well I had to do what the big boss said, so I packed up, said goodbye after break, and I went over to my new department to start the new job.

I learned a slight amount today, but most of it went over my head. It's not easy for me to just forget what I was still learning, but I have no choice. Well, here's to a new job anyways. Cheers!

Blogger Antek: WOW... best of luck Heather. You are definately bright and will pick up the odds and ends of the job in no time and with your kick ass personality you will totally make friends in no time.

Congrats on your INTERESTING day. 10:36 PM

Blogger k o w: Honestly sweetheart I'd start readying the resume to look somewhere else. Any company that would treat it's employees like that won't hesitate on fucking them over even more. 8:57 AM

Blogger Silver: As much as I'm behind you babe, I agree with Pete on this one. Time to get the resume ready, and look for something much closer to home.

The tolls...eek, and the gas...ouch. Too much money. And you know gas prices are just going to continue north. 12:50 PM

Anonymous Anonymous: Well, it sounds like you are making the best of it, so that's the bright side. I agree that the company doesn't really sound like it's run very professionally so you might want to think about looking elsewhere. Of course, it's good to pick up new skills, so who knows what might happen? BTW, if you choose to leave, during the interview process, I would be careful as to how to spin this one. I might want to create the impression it was a promotion as opposed to a turnstile... 8:05 AM

Blogger Red Sox Fanatic: Thanks for your good advice Marie. I was wondering what I would say down the line if and when I leave the company I am in right now.
Well so far the new position seems pretty easy, but if they find someone to replace me, then I am back to square 1, which I wouldn't be sad about. I really love most of the people I was working with.
If I was to get hired, I would get a raise, but if I ended up going back to my old position, I would still be getting my yearly review 6 months later anyway. I just have to wait it out a few weeks and see where it goes. I will keep you and everyone updated. 9:32 PM

Blogger Chris Bloom: I'm a bit behind the times, but I'm glad this worked out for you in the end. It sounds like a tough position to be faced with, but you toughed it out and it payed off! :) I'm glad things are still looking up. TTYS 2:48 PM

A few birthday gift puchases

Last weekend was my birthday, and I got some gift cards for various stores, and tonight Dave and I went out and I used some of them.

One was from my mother, and it was for the Fossil store. I have been wanting a watch for the longest time, because the one I have sucks. I have to constantly change the battery, and the glass plate has some scratches on it, so it was time for a new one. I have been checking thr Fossil website recently to see what they have for stock, and I found a few that drew my attention. Once we get there, I soon saw they had so many more styles in the glass cases than I saw online, and one of the styles I liked a lot turned out to be so much cheaper in the store than online. Perfect! The online price was $85.00, and in the store it was $39.99! Holy crap! I had to get it, so I did. Here is a picture of exacly what I got. It's a beauty...to me that is.

I also got a gift card to Circuit City from my kick-ass buddy Chris. Now with that type of store, electronics and all, the only things that I could really pick out would be a CD or a DVD. I don't really need anything else, but I knew I could definitely pick out a DVD! I ended up getting Will & Grace Season 4. I love that show so much, even though I have not watched it in ages. I already own Season 1 & 2, course I have not really watched every episode of both those DVD's yet, but I will at some point. Their humor on the show is so awesome! Anyways, this is the cover for what I picked up.

Oh yeah, Dave got a watch too from the Fossil store. He was so intrigued of the display of watches in the store, he said he had to get one too, even though we were only going in there for me! :o)

Blogger Antek: I totally love Fossil too, I have a Fossil store near my office in Manhattan and I'm there like every day. Totally sweet watch too.

Will and Grace is awesome too, does that season have Kevin Bacon guest staring as himself and Jack is stalking him... or the one where Matt Damon tries out for the gay chior? I love those 2 episodes., way hilarious. 11:05 PM

Anonymous Anonymous: Nice watch!!! I am a watch fanatic, but have a tendency to just buy a new one when the battery dies instead of having the battery changed, lol.

Hope you had a happy birthday!! 12:49 PM

Blogger Silver: Love the watch babe, good find! 1:00 PM
